Philippe Starck - Philippe Starck

מהפכה בעיצוב חדרי אמבטיה

Designer Philippe Starck is considered one of the most influential designers and interior-architects of our time – a creator who seeks not a “style,” but meaning. In his philosophy, design must first be “good” – to serve, to improve lives, and to benefit as many people as possible – and only then be “beautiful”; at the same time, he emphasizes social and environmental responsibility as an inseparable part of the creative process.
Starck embodies a tireless creative force of design that crosses disciplines and scales: from speakers and chandeliers, to motorcycles and mega-yachts, and from everyday items to extraordinary interiors. The hotels he has designed have attained cult status, and his works are showcased in museums and exhibitions around the world.

Since the 1980s, he has continued to create "wow" moments and set international standards, while simultaneously dedicating over 30 years to bathroom design in collaboration with AXOR – a move that redefined the experience, material, and aesthetics of water in the private space.

"The only acceptable style is freedom" Philippe Starck

From Paris to the World
His path begins in Paris: born in 1949, the son of an aeronautical engineer, he studied interior architecture and design at the Parisian school École Camondo and established himself as a creative force that blends humor, freedom, and a drive to challenge conventions. His first steps as a designer included creating inflatable objects, until he founded his own company, “Starck Products,” in 1980. Philippe Starck became famous in 1983 when he designed and furnished the private apartments of French President François Mitterrand at the Élysée Palace.
Shortly thereafter, the interior design of Café Costes in Paris turned Philippe Starck into an international star. In 1995, he created an entirely new category of hotel with the Delano boutique hotel in Miami: the designer hotel. Interior design, combined with furniture he designed himself and innovative lighting born from his ideas, continues to be a central part of his work even today. Alongside hotel design, since 1999 Philippe Starck has been creating luxury apartments worldwide under the Yoo brand. Throughout the years, he has become an international name and has also received honors and official recognition – including the French Legion of Honour.

Philippe Starck: A pioneer, a revolutionary in bathroom design.

His connection to AXOR is a defining chapter in the world of bathroom design: in 1994, AXOR and Philippe Starck revolutionized the industry with the Salon d’Eau (“Water Salon”)—a concept that positions the bathroom as a modern living space rather than just a functional room, which also marked the birth of the first AXOR bathroom collection. What was groundbreaking then has become a classic over the years. This collaboration, spanning over 30 years, has redefined the experience, materiality, and aesthetics of water in the private sphere.

At the heart of this revolution was the AXOR Starck collection. Starck himself describes the idea as something simple: a love for water, and the understanding that the more you clutter it with material and form, the more its beauty disappears. He therefore sought a “structural” shape that respects water, arriving at an almost primitive-human image: a farm/well water pump—a basic historical source for bringing water. The collection was translated into a minimalist language that distills the faucet to its essence: two “pipes” and a joystick control—all to direct attention back to the water itself: its luxury, its pleasure, and its necessity.

Starck’s stance was also distinctly anti-trend. He recounts that the great challenge was “fighting trends” and the approach of replacing a faucet or sink like fast fashion; for him, true success is a timeless product with nothing superfluous—quality, intelligence, ergonomics, and vision that last for decades. This is precisely why, even after more than 30 years, the collection continues to be perceived as relevant and as an icon that redefines what bathroom design is.

A vision for a better world - Water is Life

Starck's influence at AXOR did not stop with a single collection: it shares the same language of precise minimalism and "spatial thinking" (rather than just object-oriented design) that places the water experience at the center. The lines are clean, the proportions are balanced, and every item is designed to look natural and simple—yet feel luxurious and meticulous in use. This is a timeless design language suitable for modern bathrooms, offering a variety of solutions for faucets, showers, and accessories with an emphasis on comfort, quality, and durability. He is also the signature behind the AXOR Starck Organic collection, the AXOR Starck V glass faucet series, and the AXOR ShowerCollection—all variations on the same core design principle: making water and the user experience the focal point, and using design as a way to create personal freedom in the bathroom. Design should improve life for as many people as possible, regardless of its tangible form—that is Philippe Starck’s worldview.

AXOR Starck - The archetype

At the heart of the collection lies an archetypal shape inspired by a traditional well pump – an almost primal, human image that returns us to our fundamental relationship with water. Starck distills the faucet to its essence: a minimalist body housing an ultra-slim cartridge for flow regulation, and two clean cylinders – a vertical base and a slanted spout – with intuitive joystick control and a choice of a pin or 'feather' handle. The result is a timeless icon that shifts the focus from the product to what flows through it: the luxury of water, the pleasure of it, and the necessity of it.
In the shower, the language remains radically simple: a floor-standing shower faucet that places water at the center, with precise thermostatic control and RainAir technology that envelops the body in ultra-gentle droplets. With the hand shower, one can choose between an enveloping Rain spray or a focused MonoRain spray. In the bath area, the collection offers a variety of installation solutions – from exposed or concealed versions, to two-handle versions, to rim-mounted (four-hole) installation – alongside a floor-standing bath faucet that brings an iconic presence to freestanding bathtubs. And for those seeking the ultimate in modern convenience, an electronic touchless version for the basin is also available.

AXOR Starck Organic - Inspired by nature

Here, Starck's minimalism softens, becoming sensual and fluid: delicate, sculptural forms that hint at a branch, a trunk, or a blossom—yet remain understated and precise. The collection was born as an homage to nature, not only in appearance but also in its approach to resource conservation—from the concept and structure to daily use at the washbasin.
With every activation, a water volume control is integrated into the spout to ensure not a single drop is wasted, while a separate temperature control with a pre-setting option saves water, energy, and time. The standard flow rate is 3.5 liters per minute, with the structure injecting air into the stream to create a soft, voluminous spray of micro-fine droplets—and if a moment of abundance is desired, the flow can be increased to 5 liters per minute.
The collection offers a multitude of options for the washbasin, bathtub, and shower: two-handle faucets in various heights as well as wall-mounted options for the washbasin, variations for the bath including floor-standing tub fillers or deck-mounted installations, alongside shower solutions for concealed installation or with an external thermostat as a design element. If necessary, the items can be combined with additional modules from the AXOR shower world for a harmonious and calming composition.

AXOR Starck V - The miracle of water

V for vitality. V for visionary. V for vortex.
In this series, Starck transforms water into a visual experience. The faucet body is specially designed to sculpt water into a swirling vortex—transparent yet present, constant yet ever-changing. The body is crafted from perfect crystal glass or matte milk-white porcelain, rotates 360 degrees for precise and convenient positioning, and detaches with a single click for thorough cleaning—by hand or in the dishwasher—featuring a mechanism that prevents water waste during detachment.
The series comes in single-handle or two-hole versions, with an elegant pin handle that activates the flow with ease. The flow remains water-efficient (4 liters per minute), and the base is offered in a wide range of AXOR FinishPlus finishes, allowing the object to become a sculptural centerpiece in the bathroom. In the diamond-cut or faceted versions, the base captures light and refracts it into sparkling patterns that enhance the drama of the vortex.
Behind the magic lies precision engineering: a dedicated "jet designer" creates the swirl, and the intensity of the vortex can be adjusted using a simple Allen key included in the kit. The result is a creation that is simultaneously a faucet, a fountain, and an objet d'art—a daily reminder of the wonder of clean water.
Ultimately, Starck succeeds at AXOR precisely because of what he refuses to do: chase trends. Instead, he offers timelessness—a design based on essence, ergonomics, and experience. It is minimalism with meaning, placing water back at the center and allowing every bathroom to be truly personal.
